Installation Tips:
Software installation is discussed on page 52 of the Users' Guide. We have found that some computers require
a slight configuration modification to run FORESIGHT VIDEO. What with the many different computer
manufacturers and operating systems (DOS, Windows - 3.1, 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, and XP), this modification
typically takes about 2 minutes to perform and requires no special knowledge.
Occasionally, following the disk installation, the computer may return a message "Open Error ... (4)". Again,
this takes only a few minutes to remedy and if needed we can walk you through setting up a Windows icon at
the same time and/or discuss backing up your data. (Notes for this modification are on the reverse of this
page.)
Please call us for assistance as needed. Our software has been operating on virtually all IBM-compatible
computers for over 15 years. It will run on your computer, too. Having said that, we do not recommend the
Windows Me operating system as it has printing problems.
Operating System CONFIGuration file modifications
CONFIG.SYS or CONFIG.NT files located in either the root directory or WINNT\SYSTEM32 or
WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directories must be modified to accommodate the 51 file handles currently associated
with FORESIGHT VIDEO. Additionally, the operating system requires some assignment for file handles and
as such we recommend on a single-user system a FILES=75 or greater command.
Additionally, the following commands will produce improved memory management, depending on the specific
operating system:
From a COMMAND PROMPT (or DOS PROMPT) you may type to access an operating systems word
processor (not applicable to WINDOWS XP):
CD\
FV CFG
(Perform the below modifications.)
ALT / F / X / Y (and "ENTER" will save the modifications)
For DOS / WINDOWS 95 / WINDOWS 98
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS
DOS=HIGH,UMB
FILES=75
BUFFERS=16
For WINDOWS 2000 / XP
FILES=75
Additional modifications may be necessary, depending upon your specific hardware configuration to optimize your system's memory management, printing and general operation.
